Acne Medication Pills

Introduction to Acne Medication Pills:

Acne occurs if the pores on the skin surface chokes and the condition occurs due to excess oil produced by our sebaceous glands. Our skin contains pores and each pore opens from a canal called follicle. These follicles are required for hair growth and contain skin oil produced by oil glands known as sebaceous glands. Under certain circumstances these oil glands produced excess oils that chokes the pores. This clogging of pores on our skin produces pimples, nodules and sometimes cysts on our skin. These acne pills are aimed to control acne lesions quickly however the complete improvement may take 4 to 12 week of time depending on the condition of the acne lesion in the patient.

Antibiotic acne pills:

Although there are many over the counter medicines for treating acne, but in most of the mild to moderate acne case these are very less affective. You need to have some oral medicines to control your acne. Oral antibiotic pills are the option for you to treat to moderate acne. These antibiotics kill the bacterium P. acnes that is responsible for inflammatory affect of the acne. Once the bacteria colonization is curtained, you start recovering from your acne within a few weeks. The initial antibiotic recommended includes tetracycline and erythromycin.

Many people do not respond well to the tetracycline pills and therefore erythromycin is recommended to these people. Tetracycline should be taken empty stomach and it has severe side effect on fetus as it affects the teeth and bones, it is not recommended to the pregnant women. Some medicines are photosensitive and there their use is limited and one of such pill is doxycycline.

Oral pills are affective if taken continuously and in some case the results are only expected after a few weeks. Your dermatologist will decide the doses and duration and no antibiotic should be taken without prescription.

Side effects of antibiotic acne pills:

All antibiotics show some side effects and a few side effects are also associated with these pills. Erythromycin has side effects including nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain and cramp, jaundice and stomatitis. The common side effects of doxycycline and tetracycline includes photosensitivity, diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain, anorexia, headache, lightheadedness, dizziness and drowsiness.
